“I Am Your Local…”: photography exhibition spotlights refugee voices

I Am Your Local…”, a powerful photography exhibition presented by Photojournalism Hub and Hikayetna marking Refugee Week.

Photojournalism Hub and Hikayetna present “I Am Your Local…”, a powerful photography exhibition marking Refugee Week.

This timely exhibition “I Am Your Local…” showcases the work of photographers from migrant and refugee backgrounds, offering intimate and compelling visual narratives rooted in lived experience. Through their lenses, we are invited to see beyond stereotypes and headlines to witness personal journeys of displacement, resilience, and belonging.Photo cover: Annie Gentil-Kraatz

At a time when migration is often framed through the lens of crisis, “I Am Your Local…” shifts the narrative by centring the voices of those with lived experience, reclaiming space and dignity through visual storytelling.
The exhibition “I am your local…” highlight the power of photography as a creative tool for expression, empowerment, and social change. The photographs shine al light on contemporary issues, including border politics, identity, and belonging, offering a deeply human perspective on today’s global and local realities. But they also celebrate the immense resilience of migrants and refugees as they navigate practical and personal challenges.

“I Am Your Local…” is a space for personal stories of people too often defined by the label migrant or refugee, rather than by who they are: the teacher, the driver, the doctor, the volunteer. This exhibition shifts the lens, recognising the many roles they hold in our communities and the lives they shape every day.” – Cinzia D’Ambrosi

“I Am Your Local…” features the photographic work of Annie Gentil-Kraatz, Evgeniya Strygina, Manuela Federl, Maria Tomas Rodrigues, Nafisa Elfatih Elmahina, Natalia Sharomova, Nuriya Aliyaskarova, Olena Vasiukevych, Richard Zubelzu, Serbest Salih, Shasheet Alaa, and Uwera Djamilla.
