About us
Our Story
Hikayetna is a not-for-profit community organisation based in London.
Our mission is to empower the local community through enhancing their voices.
Our programmes offer skills training and mentoring to support refugees and migrants into successful careers.
Hikayetna was established to address some of the challenges faced by the local underrepresented groups in London to access cultural and creative opportunities. We aimed to create a platform where their voices are heard and their stories shared. We strive to foster social inclusion, artistic expression, and personal empowerment through the arts. We believe that storytelling is a powerful tool for building bridges between communities, enhancing self-awareness, and promoting social change. By offering creative workshops, storytelling festivals, and skills training, we strive to equip individuals with the tools to express themselves, build confidence, and integrate into society. Hikayetna was founded on the belief that everyone deserves the chance to engage with culture and the arts, and through our initiatives, we aim to create a more inclusive, understanding, and connected community.
Specifically, we.
1-Facilitate storytelling, photography and film workshops and platforms for marginalised communities to amplify their voices and share their experiences, fostering empathy and understanding among diverse groups.
2- Create a platform for underrepresented young people, including refugees and migrants, to share their stories, express their creativity, and amplify their voices within the community.
3-Create cultural exchange and dialogue opportunities through community events, art exhibitions, and interactive projects to promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation.
4-Develop educational programs and resources to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge to challenge stereotypes, combat discrimination, and build more inclusive societies.
