A Night of Stories and Flavour Brings Acton Neighbourhood Together
Acton’s vibrant community spirit is set to shine at the Acton Neighbourhood Festival Friday 8th Novembr with an unforgettable evening of storytelling and culinary discovery. From 6 to 8 p.m., attendees will gather at the W3 Gallery, Acton, for immersive experience where captivating tales meet the warm, aromatic flavours of traditional Syrian cuisine. Sponsored by Ealing Council, this free event is part of a festival celebrating the diverse talent within Acton and bringing the community together.
With a lineup of seasoned storytellers, the event promises to blend the old with the new, as tales both timeless and modern will be shared to enchant listeners of all ages. Leading the evening is Grace Quansah the former Open University lecturer, British Museum facilitator, educator, award-winning performance artiste, poet, writer, author-published in 24 collections, editor of 3 books, activist, Ealing councillor (former Ealing Mayor’s consort), digital content producer, Grace Quansah (aka ‘Akuba’) founded WAPPY (www.wappy.org.uk) in 2008. It develops the writing, artwork and performance skills of young people, with opportunities for performance, exhibition, research, interviewing, publication, volunteering and training. A community champion of multiple causes, her mission is always to remove barriers from those struggling against the odds, and supporting young people and individuals to achieve their true potential. Akuba’s stories are sure to reflect her community-driven ethos, spotlighting resilience, heritage, and the power of self-expression.
Adding another layer of depth to the night’s performances, TuuP, a beloved local storyteller, will transport listeners to far-off worlds and distant eras. TuuP is known for his masterful retellings of folklore and traditional tales, weaving narratives that bridge past and present. His storytelling approach resonates with audiences of all ages, creating an atmosphere where everyone can feel the magic of oral traditions handed down through generations.
And no storytelling evening would be complete without a feast for the senses. A local Syrian chef will introduce guests to the stories behind each dish, taking them on a culinary journey through Syria’s rich cultural heritage. This hands-on cultural experience will give attendees a taste of Syria’s culinary art, with foods that reflect a legacy of warmth and tradition—a perfect complement to the evening’s tales.
This storytelling evening is part of the Acton Neighbourhood Festival, a monthly celebration aimed at empowering Acton’s diverse community. By bringing together artists, performers, and storytellers, the festival underscores the beauty of cultural exchange and connection. This initiative by Ealing Council not only enriches Acton’s cultural landscape but also strengthens local bonds, one story at a time.
