Majeda Khouri is a Syrian human rights activist, she came to the UK at the end of 2017. For her” “cooking was a way to promote Syria and integrate into society.”
“When you share food, you share the love” “it’s how I sum up Syrian food. The food is full of the taste of love, it’s colourful and there are lots of special flavours.”
During the workshop Majeda will get the opportunity to present three Syrian dishes:
1- fatoush salad
2- Batersh ( smoked Aubergine with tahini and yoghourt + tomato sauce and minced lamb on top
3-Harrak Osbao : lentils with dough and tamarind garnished with coriander and fried pita bread and fried onion.
Julia Katarina is a classically trained singer and multi-instrumentalist who studied in London and taught singing, cello and theory at Music schools in Palestine for 4 years. She specialises in German Lieder ~ currently working on Schubert’s Schwannengesang with pianist and voice specialist, Will Hancox ~ and Arabic song with oud and she regularly plays cello in Syrian ensembles, most recently accompanying Moroccan singer Rachid Gholam in Cambridge.
