Making a journey from one country to another, leaving your home behind, for whatever reason – be it war, poverty, or other difficulties, is a life changing experience. Your journey and your story is unique and could inspire understanding and empathy in others. We are lecturers in Creative Writing at Brunel University and believe that stories have the power to bring people together, to help people understand each other and accept each other more deeply. We would like to hear your story. As well as your journeys, we would also like to hear about your hopes, aspirations and dreams. We know that it can be difficult to start a new life in a new country – our project aims to encourage integration by making people’s voices heard. With our experience in writing, story-telling and teaching, we would like to help you find ways to tell your story, whether through writing or speaking.

Practise your language skills through story-telling
Meet other people who have had similar experiences
Listen to other people’s stories
Explore and develop your creative skills
Be part of a project which aims to help people to integrate into their new community.
At the moment, we are looking for either Arabic speakers or people who can communicate in English, but we are hoping to be able to offer this opportunity to speakers of other languages in the future.
